When Sephora contacted Start Design their challenge was deceptively simple: improve the customer experience by deploying design and technology to increase product display and basket size, particularly in smaller store formats.
Our solution was termed Sephora Flash 3.0 and introduced a host of major retail innovations, from near-field communication to virtual baskets, all designed to put customers firmly in control.
Whether sampling, browsing or buying from the full selection of the 150 brands and 14,000 products they stock, the customer was at the heart of all the new innovations, empowering them to have the confidence to know what is best for their specific beauty needs.
Through using innovative technology, Sephora are encouraging new customer behaviours, while creating a new purpose for their physical stores around convenience, new offers and education, all aligned seamlessly with their growing online offer. In turn, this has created opportunities for additional purchase and fulfilment models, including click & collect, digital basket and shop & ship.
